午餐：澳门豆捞坊。算是火锅吧，滑和丸还不错。嘿嘿，实现了俺前两周定的计划：年前有空要吃顿火锅！

晚餐：朋友他母亲亲手包的东北水饺！HOHO，一个字：爽！

护士问俺有没有预约，这不废话嘛，没有预约俺来干啥呀！参加体检的人还挺多，不过每个体检项目都有护士在导检，显得井井有条，体现了专业体检机构的优势。

第一个项目当然是抽血了，毕竟一早起来滴水未进，还赶了近一小时的路，早就想吃点东西填填肚子了。

耳鼻喉科的医生带着探照镜看了看俺的口腔说俺的牙不错；外科的医生看了看、拍了拍俺的腰说俺的腰看起来不错、拍起来也不错，然后给了一堆建议，哈哈，笑死俺了！说笑间俺走出了外科室，不一会儿外科室的医生追了上来问俺的体检号是多少，说是刚才顾着说话忘了记了……

内科是唯一一个要排长队的科室，有时一个人进去竟然要20-30分钟才出来！！！个别人把体检医生当成了咨询的对象，问了一堆问题。外面等待的人在议论纷纷，以为是医生在当医托。而俺进去只两分钟左右就出来了，医生拿着听诊器在俺身上听了几个地方，说：嗯，都正常。

体检中心唯一的特点是又看到了国人特有的传统，父母体检的，子女来排队；子女体检的，也有长辈帮忙排队的……

一切都很顺利，把签了名的体检表格交给前台后俺就逛街去了。谁知当俺在南京路附近时竟然接到了一护士的电话，问俺的表格交给她们没，俺顿时来火了，#￥％@#￥@￥％××&～*^，她们说再找找看，之后就没消息了，估计都搞定了吧！

Jan. 3 (Bloomberg) -- The pound fell to a record low against the euro after the Bank of England said lenders will reduce the supply of credit to consumers and companies in the first quarter, threatening to deepen the economic slowdown.

The U.K. currency also extended its first annual decline in three years on speculation a separate central bank report tomorrow will show consumers borrowed less and banks made fewer loans for house purchases in November, strengthening the case for an interest-rate cut. Futures prices showed traders have added to bets policy makers will lower the benchmark rate by June.

``The pound is suffering on expectations of both lower credit supply and demand,'' said Neil Jones, head of European hedge-fund sales in London at Mizuho Capital Markets. ``A reduction in credit should cause lower interest rates. Both are pound-negative features.''

Against the euro, the pound dropped to 74.82 pence, the lowest since the common European currency's introduction in 1999, and was at 74.52 pence by 3:25 p.m. in London, from 74.30 yesterday. It may fall to 74.9 pence this week, Stannard said.

The U.K. currency weakened to the lowest in more than a week versus the dollar, before trading at $1.9749, from $1.9808. It fell as much as 1.7 percent against the yen to a 1 1/2-year low, and was recently at 216.35, from 217.21 on Jan. 2.

Lenders curbed secured credit for U.K. households ``materially'' and cut debt to companies ``significantly'' in the past three months, the Bank of England said today in a quarterly survey conducted from Nov. 19 to Dec. 12. They plan to pare loans to those borrowers further, the report showed.

Home, Consumer Lending

Banks made 83,000 loans for house purchases in November, after approvals declined the most in 10 months in October, the central bank will say tomorrow, according to the median forecast of 17 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News. Consumers borrowed 1.2 billion pounds ($2.4 billion) in personal loans and overdrafts, down from 1.4 billion pounds, economists predict.

Signs credit in Europe's second-biggest economy is tightening came even as the cost of borrowing pounds for three months fell for a 13th day, suggesting central banks' efforts to revive interbank lending are working. The London interbank offered rate, or Libor, dropped 6 basis points to 5.83 percent the British Bankers' Association said.

U.K. retail stocks fell the most in seven years today after DSG International Plc said profit will miss analysts' estimates and Next Plc forecast a fourth year without same-store sales growth, adding to concern about consumer spending. The 20-member FTSE 350 General Retailers Index slid as much as 6.2 percent, its biggest decline since Jan. 11, 2001.

`Significant Underperformers'

``The pound is going to be one of the most significant underperformers this year,'' said Ian Stannard, a senior currency strategist in London at BNP Paribas SA. ``Any signs of weakness in the U.K. housing market will add to those fears.''

Gilts erased earlier gains, with the yield on the two-year note little changed at 4.29 percent. The price of the 5.75 percent security due December 2009 slid 0.01, or 10 pence per 1,000-pound face amount, to 102.66. Yields move inversely to bond prices.

Britain's currency fell even as a report showed construction, which accounts for 6 percent of the economy, unexpectedly picked up last month from November's 14-month low.

The implied yield on the U.K. June interest-rate futures contract was little changed today at 5.17 percent, 14 basis points lower than when the central bank reduced its benchmark rate by a quarter percentage point to 5.5 percent on Dec. 6.

Jan. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Gold rose, extending a seven-year rally to the highest price since 1980, as a weakening dollar and higher energy costs boosted demand for a hedge against inflation. Silver also gained.

Investors are pouring money into gold with energy and grains close to record highs and the dollar under pressure from the prospect of more cuts in U.S. borrowing costs. In 2007, gold climbed 31 percent as the dollar fell to an all-time low against the euro, and crude oil climbed to the highest ever.

``Gold is leading us into uncharted territory,'' said Frank McGhee, head metals trader at Integrated Brokerage Services LLC in Chicago. ``Crude is making a run for $100, the dollar is headed lower, and geopolitical tensions are building. It's very possible gold can get to $1,000 this year.''

Gold futures for February delivery rose $12.10, or 1.4 percent, to $850.80 an ounce at 10:10 a.m. on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The metal earlier reached $852.30, the highest for a most-active contract since Jan. 21, 1980, the day futures reached a record $873.

Silver for March delivery gained 22.5 cents, or 1.5 percent, to $15.145 an ounce. The metal rose 15 percent last year.

Oil traded as high as $98.30 a barrel today, about $1 below its record. The dollar dropped against the euro.

The Federal Reserve has reduced the overnight lending rate three times since Sept. 18 from 5.25 percent to 4.25 percent on concern a housing slump will lead to a slowdown in the U.S. economy. The UBS Bloomberg Constant Maturity Commodity Index of 26 commodities rose 22 percent in 2007.

Pakistan Elections

Pakistan pushed back elections to Feb. 18 that would have returned the nuclear-armed country to democracy after eight years of military rule. Opposition candidate Benazir Bhutto was assassinated on Dec. 27.

Crude oil rose after Nigerian militants killed 12 people in the southern oil city of Port Harcourt yesterday. Nigeria is Africa's biggest petroleum producer.

Investment in the StreetTracks Gold Trust, an exchange- traded fund backed by bullion, surged 39 percent last year to a record 628 metric tons.

``The move suggests that funds have made additional moves into bullion with Pakistan remaining on edge and investors nervous about financial markets,'' said Jon Nadler, an analyst at Kitco Minerals & Metals Inc. in Montreal.

Gold's gain last year was the biggest since 1979, when the price more than doubled after the Shah of Iran was overthrown, energy costs surged and the dollar slumped. The spot price of the metal climbed to a record $850 on Jan. 21, 1980, and traded as high as $848.65 today.

Dec. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Gold rose, heading for the biggest annual gain since 1979, as a decline in the dollar boosted the appeal of the precious metal as an alternative investment. Silver also climbed.

Gold has jumped 32 percent this year as a weaker U.S. currency, record energy costs and continuing conflict in the Middle East sparked demand for the metal. Investment in the StreetTracks Gold Trust, an exchange-traded fund backed by bullion, surged 39 percent to a record 628 metric tons.

``One would be hard-pressed to find a reason for gold not to continue to rally at this point,'' said Matt Zeman, a metals trader at LaSalle Futures Group in Chicago.

Gold futures for February delivery rose $10.90, or 1.3 percent, to $842.70 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The metal gained 3.3 percent this week.

Lower borrowing costs have hurt the dollar this year. The U.S. currency dropped against the euro for a sixth straight day on concerns a slowing economy will force the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates again.

``We expect this monetary environment, one in which central banks around the world are cutting interest rates and injecting liquidity, to remain very bullish for commodities,'' said Chip Hanlon, president of Delta Global Advisors Inc. in Huntington Beach, California, which manages about $1.2 billion. The firm predicts gold will reach $925 in 2008.

The Fed lowered the benchmark lending rate 1 percentage point to 4.25 percent this year, sending the dollar in late November to $1.4967 against the euro, the lowest ever. Five of the past six bear markets in the dollar have rallied gold.

Longest Rally

Gold also rose on demand for a hedge against accelerating consumer prices. Crude oil rose as much as 1.4 percent today to $97.92 a barrel after reaching a record $99.29 on Nov. 21. Oil is up 59 percent this year.

Gold is headed for the seventh straight annual gain, the longest rally since futures began trading in 1975. Futures reached a 27-year high of $848 on Nov. 7.

In 1979, gold more than doubled after the Shah of Iran was overthrown, energy costs surged and the dollar slumped. The spot price of the metal climbed to a record $850 on Jan. 21, 1980, and futures reached $873.

Silver trailed gold this year on speculation that slowing global economic growth will hurt demand for base metals. Silver, which has wider industrial applications than gold, has gained 15 percent in 2007. Last year, silver rose 46 percent, while gold gained 23 percent.

Silver futures for March delivery rose 7.7 cents, or 0.5 percent, to $14.895 an ounce.

Dec. 27 (Bloomberg) -- The yuan rose the most since China ended its fixed-exchange rate to the dollar in 2005 as the government signaled faster gains to cool economic growth and curb inflation.

The currency climbed 0.37 percent after the official China Securities Journal cited Ba Shusong, a cabinet researcher, calling for appreciation to curb prices of imported fuel and food. The yuan may gain by a ``big margin,'' Yao Jingyuan, chief economist of the National Bureau of Statistics, told a seminar in Beijing in the afternoon.

``The economy is overheating in at least some regions,'' Yu Yongding, the director of the World Economics and Politics Institute in Beijing and a former central bank monetary policy committee member said in an interview today. ``The central bank now has more room to let the yuan rate float with more flexibility.''

The yuan gained as much as 0.41 percent to 7.3131 per dollar before trading at 7.3162 as of the 5:30 p.m. close in Shanghai, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System. The average daily fluctuation this week of 0.28 percent is three times larger than last week's. The currency's 6.7 percent gain versus the dollar this year is twice as much as last year's 3.3 percent advance.

The U.S. trade deficit with China is still set to exceed last year's record of $232.5 billion, prompting lawmakers including Senator Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat, to propose sanctions unless the yuan controls are loosened. U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson on Dec. 19 called for faster gains, while refraining from accusing China of manipulating its currency to make exports more competitive.

`Big Margin'

While the yuan gained against the dollar this year, it fell against 7 of the world's 17 most-active currencies. It slid 3 percent per euro, 11 percent versus the Canadian dollar and 13 percent against the Brazilian real, pushing up import costs.

A 10 percent appreciation in the yuan against the dollar would reduce the import prices of oil, soybeans and pork by about 10 percent, Ba, a deputy director at the State Council Development and Research Center, was cited as saying by the China Securities newspaper.

``The yuan may gain by big margin, which will help lower import costs and curb low-end exports,'' the statistical bureau's Yao said.

The central bank in a Dec. 21 statement said it plans ``forceful measures'' to limit money supply, including a more flexible exchange rate. The market will play a ``much'' bigger role in setting the yuan's value, policy makers said after a quarterly monetary policy meeting.

Rising Stocks

The CSI 300 Index, which tracks yuan-denominated A shares listed on China's two exchanges, has almost tripled this year pushing prices to 46 times per-share earnings, more than double that of Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index. It gained 2 percent today.

``We're seeing some big moves in the yuan,'' said David Mann, senior strategist at Standard Chartered in Hong Kong. ``It makes sense for them to get more aggressive in addressing the overheating pressures in the economy.''

The currency will rise to 6.84 by the end of 2008, he said.

The central bank this month raised rates for a sixth time this year to rein in credit growth, and lifted the reserve ratio to the highest in at least 20 years. The economy expanded 11.5 percent in the third quarter and consumer prices rose 6.9 percent in November from a year-earlier.

China's trade surplus, which surged 52 percent in the 11 months through November to $238.1 billion, has driven foreign- exchange reserves to record $1.46 trillion, making it difficult for the government to slow growth and tame asset-price inflation.

Trading Band

Policy makers discussed widening the yuan's trading band to 0.8 percent either side of a daily rate fixed by the central bank from 0.5 percent now, the Hong Kong-based Ta Kung Pao newspaper reported last month, citing an unidentified person.

``Either widening the trading band or another revaluation, the direction of faster appreciation is already set,'' former monetary policy maker Yu said.

The People's Bank of China on July 21, 2005, ended a decade-long link to the dollar, letting the currency move in reference to a basket of currencies including the euro, yen, British pound and Korean won. It strengthened the currency by 2.1 percent that day.

Forward contracts show traders are betting on an 8.7 percent advance in the yuan to 6.7344 per dollar in the next 12 months. The median estimate of 28 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg News is for a rate of 6.88 by the end of 2008.

Debt Sales

The central bank sold 2 billion yuan ($273 million) of three-year notes today at a yield of 4.52 percent. The rate climbed 5 basis points from that of similar-maturity debt issued a week ago. The yield at a three-month bill sale was unchanged at 3.41 percent. A basis point is 0.01 percentage point.

``There are plenty of funds available for debt investments, keeping yields on short-term bills stable,'' said Nie Shuguang, a fixed-income analyst at Industrial Bank Co. in Shanghai. ``Many PBOC bills sold previously are maturing this month, adding a lot of money to the market.''

The benchmark interbank seven-day repo fixing fell 10 basis points to 2.28 percent, compared with an average of 3.2 percent this month. The Shanghai interbank offered rate, or Shibor, for two-week funding fell 1 basis point to 2.4 percent.

The yield on the 4.35 percent treasury bond due November 2014 fell 2 basis points to 4.33 percent, according to the China Interbank Bond Market. The price rose 0.1 per 100 yuan face amount to 100.10.

Dec. 26 (Bloomberg) -- The dollar may fall 20 percent to 95 yen in 2008 as a housing slump erodes U.S. corporate earnings and consumer spending, forcing the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates, according to Mitsubishi UFJ Securities Co.

``The adjustment in the U.S. housing market has just begun,''' Kazuo Mizuno, chief economist in Tokyo at the unit of Japan's largest publicly traded lender, said in an interview today. ``It will probably bottom out in three or four years. Meantime, this will keep buffeting consumption, employment and the dollar.''

Mizuno's forecast is among the most bearish, with the median estimate of 42 economists for the dollar to fall 3 percent to 110 yen next year. The U.S. currency this year dropped 4 percent as the Federal Reserve cut its benchmark interest rate by 1 percentage point to support the economy.

The dollar traded at 114.15 yen at 2:12 p.m. in Tokyo, compared with 114.13 yen in New York yesterday. The currency last traded below 95 yen in August 1995. Only Deutsche Bank AG, the world's largest currency trader, had a forecast as bearish as Mizuno's in the Bloomberg news survey.

The U.S. currency has weakened against 15 of the 16 most- active currencies this year, reaching a more than two-year low of 107.23 yen on Nov. 26, because of widening credit-market losses and the worst housing slump in 16 years.

Dollar Rebound

The dollar has rebounded in the past four weeks as Merrill Lynch & Co., Morgan Stanley, Citigroup Inc. and Bear Stearns Cos., all based in New York, sold $20 billion in stakes to Asian and Middle Eastern investors to bolster capital eroded by credit-market losses.

The dollar has still declined 8.4 percent against the euro this year as Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Chairman Warren Buffett and Bill Gross, manager of the world's biggest bond fund, both recommended selling dollars and seeking higher returns in the past three months.

The yield advantage on benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasuries over comparable-maturity Japanese government bonds fell to 263 basis points, from 303 basis points at the end of last year.

The dollar depreciated in five of the past six years against the euro, leading Asian and Middle Eastern nations to diversify their reserves. The dollar made up 64.8 percent of central banks' currency reserves in the second quarter, down from 71 percent in 1999, the year the euro made its debut, according to the International Monetary Fund. The euro accounts for 25.6 percent.

``Now is the beginning of the end to dollar standard system,'' Mizuno said.

Housing Slump

The Fed will be forced to cut rates from 4.25 percent to 2.25 percent by the end of 2008, Mizuno said. Interest-rate futures on the Chicago Board of Trade show traders see a 76 percent chance the Fed will cut its benchmark rate to 4 percent at its Jan. 30 meeting.

Home prices in 20 U.S. metropolitan areas slumped in October by the most in at least six years, a private survey may show today, according to a Bloomberg News survey. The S&P/Case- Shiller home-price index, which has data back to 2001, may show prices dropped 5.7 percent in the 12 months that ended October, a 10th consecutive decline, economists forecast.

``The U.S. housing bubble saw prices overshoot,'' Mizuno said. ``The S&P/Case-Shiller home-price index may drop as low as 10 percent in the first half of next year.''
